Charles V. Gerkin, Jr.,
Senior Counsel
Telecommunications Law
Charlie has practiced telecommunications law for over 40 years, beginning when the AT&T divestiture was announced. He has built a strong practice in telecommunications regulation and commercial relationships, representing clients in every sector of the industry except the former Bell companies. With a wealth of experience, he advises primarily non-traditional communications service providers on regulatory compliance. Overall, this is an environment where non-compliance penalties can threaten a client’s financial viability and even the legal ability to provide services.
Regulation All-Star
Charlie helps clients identify the best available terms, conditions, and cost-effective approaches to negotiations. His representation has resulted in successful regulatory litigation before state and federal regulatory agencies and courts nationwide. He believes it’s his mission to be proactive and monitor the regulatory environment. Rather than simply reacting to new developments, Charlie works to anticipate and identify threats and opportunities to his clients’ businesses.
Charlie views his client relationships as a reflection of the values he’s learned in life. All told, when it comes to his practice of law, he most enjoys finding ways to help his clients turn adversity into opportunity.
When he’s not working
In addition to spending time with family, Charlie enjoys traveling, driving his sports car on winding mountain roads and playing bridge with lifelong friends. For over 40 years he has enjoyed working and playing with computers. Before attending law school, he counseled prisoners in the Fort Benning, Georgia stockade.
